The SSWC-Trust was founded in 2002 by Chandan Kumar Verma. The Trust was registered as an NGO (charity id is 031090109) in 2005.
SSWC-Trust has a government license to operate as a school for children (1562005 school registration number)
The school is in Sujata Village, 2 km from Bodhgaya where the Buddha attained enlightenment 2500 years ago. Sujata Village is named after Sujata who gave the Buddha rice milk (then Prince Siddharta) which ended his 6 years as an ascetic.
Chandan wanted to give children from the poorest families in the area a chance to go to school. His father donated a piece of land where a small school building was built, initially without a roof. Today the school has two floors, 5 or 6 classrooms, an office, computer/storage room and sowing machine room.
Initially, Chandan went to the local villages and talked to the parents and encouraged them to send their children to school.
The school is free as the parents do not have the means to pay school fees.
For Chandan education is the beginning of a life outside of poverty. The children who do not go to school end up begging for money. The begging is unfortunately very often organized by people with less than good intention.
Chandan has the following aims/goals for the school
- To provide children with opportunities to improve their future.
- To give children a basic education and to protect their rights.
- To help eliminate child labor
- To provide innovative education activities, that increase literacy and vocational training center.
- To motivate parents and guardians to send their children to school.
- Motivate ethical behavior like compassion and kindness.
The school has 140 children aged 3-15 years old. In the afternoon special classes for 9 and 10 grade are available to deepen the knowledge in English, math, Science and biology.
The school is SECULAR. The following subjects are being taught Hindi, Sanskrit, English, geography, math, history, science, general knowledge, human ethics.
The school supports the children with school uniforms, school materials, shoes and clothes for the winter. All the children are also issued with ID-cards.
