In the heart of Sujata Village, near Bodhgaya, Bihar, the Sakya Sujata Children Welfare Trust (SSCWT) stands as a beacon of hope for underprivileged children. Established in 2002 by Chandan Kumar Verma and registered as an NGO in 2005, SSCWT is committed to providing education, welfare, and nourishment to children who face the harsh realities of poverty and neglect.
A Vision for Change
Chandan Kumar Verma’s vision was clear: to offer children from the poorest families an opportunity to break free from the cycle of poverty through education. With support from his father, who donated land, the trust built a modest school building, initially without a roof. Today, the school has evolved into a two-floor structure with multiple classrooms, an office, and specialized rooms for computer and sewing machine training.
Educational Initiatives
The school caters to 140 children aged between 3 to 15 years. The curriculum is secular and comprehensive, encompassing subjects like Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Geography, Mathematics, History, Science, General Knowledge, and Human Ethics. Special afternoon classes are offered for grades 9 and 10, focusing on English, Mathematics, Science, and Biology, aiming to deepen students’ knowledge and prepare them for future academic challenges.
Beyond academics, SSCWT ensures that each child receives school uniforms, materials, shoes, winter clothing, and ID cards, fostering a sense of belonging and dignity.
Holistic Child Welfare Programs
Understanding that education alone isn’t enough, SSCWT implements a range of welfare programs designed to protect and empower children:
- Safe Shelters: Providing secure and nurturing environments for children in need.
- Psychological Support: Offering counseling and emotional support to help children cope with past traumas.
- Nutritional Support: Ensuring access to nutritious meals to promote healthy growth and development.
Community Engagement and Global Outreach
SSCWT’s impact extends beyond the local community. The trust actively engages with visitors from around the world, sharing its mission and fostering global solidarity.
